More than 300 books, newspapers and historical documents are taking visitors through one of the defining moments in Việt Nam’s modern history at a special exhibition in Hà Nội, marking the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

It is part of a special exhibition, themed "The August Revolution of 1945 – A Historic Milestone for the Nation", that will run until September 5 to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the August 1945 Revolution and National Day (September 2).

The event aims to recreate and highlight the significance of the victory in the struggle for national independence and the country's development towards a prosperous and happy life for its people.

It contributes to disseminating information about the revolution and helping the public, especially the younger generation, better understand the country's important historical events, particularly the August Revolution of 1945.

The exhibits cover various topics such as the role of the Communist Party of Việt Nam and President Hồ Chí Minh in the victory of the August Revolution of 1945, the 1945 Declaration of Independence and Việt Nam today in the process of innovation, integration and development.

Many of these materials offer rich and profound insights into the events of September 2, 1945, when President Hồ Chí Minh read the Declaration of Independence at the historic Ba Đình Square in Hà Nội. This gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam – now the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam – and opened an era of national independence.

The exhibition is one of various cultural and artistic activities held this month and early next month across Hà Nội in celebration of the anniversaries.

On September 1, the Thăng Long Theatre will perform in Đan Phượng Commune, while the Hà Nội Circus and Variety Arts Theatre will perform for residents of Minh Châu Commune.

On September 2, more programmes will be held across the capital. The Hà Nội Chèo Theatre will perform at the Bà Kiệu Temple area in Hoàn Kiếm Ward; the Hà Nội Drama Theatre in Phúc Sơn Commune; the Hà Nội Cải Lương Theatre in Bát Tràng Commune; the Thăng Long Water Puppet Theatre in Đại Xuyên Commune; and the Hà Nội Culture and Library Centre in Hòa Lạc Commune.

Hỏa Lò Prison Relic in the centre of Hà Nội will also host a themed exhibition from August 19 to September 5, featuring the sacrifices made by Vietnamese revolutionaries during Việt Nam's struggle for national independence and freedom.

The performances aim to bring professional arts closer to the public while creating a joyful and festive atmosphere during the country’s major national celebrations. — VNS
