HÀ NỘI — An oil-on-canvas painting by hearing-impaired young painter Trần Nam Long has won the first prize of the Inspiring Tradition painting competition in Hà Nội.

Featured bright colours, his painting Ban Công Ngày Nắng (Balcony on a Sunny Day) has expressed warmth, positivity, and strong determination of a person with disabilities.

Huỳnh Thị Kim Ngọc’s Núi Ấn - Sông Trà Quê Tôi (Ấn Mountain - Trà River in My Hometown) has grabbed the second prize, while the Huỳnh Thanh Nhi's Con Rồng Thanh Long (The Thanh Long Dragon) has been given the third prize.

The painting Đã Đến Kinh Thành (Arrive at Huế Imperial City) by Huỳnh Thị Thảnh has received the Inspiring Story Award. Trần Quốc Anh's Tết 1 and Tết 2 were the recipients of the Contemporary Touch Award and the Traditional Touch Award.

The winners are among a dozen of disadvantaged people with painting talent who sent their entries to the art contest.

Launched in September 2023 by the Pan Pacific Hanoi, in collaboration with the Việt Nam University of Fine Arts (VUFA), the contest aims to recognise Vietnamese artists with disability as well as VUFA students, who demonstrate extraordinary talent in visual arts through innovative and sustainable methods, and offer them the opportunity to showcase their works to the wider community.

The contest theme focuses on the tangible or intangible cultural value, or scenic spots in Việt Nam that can be interpreted beautifully as an artistic expression of emotions and perspectives on Việt Nam cultural heritage.

The contest has received 76 entries from 72 artists. These pieces of art have captured the hearts of audience and communicated stories using a variety of materials such as oil on canvas, paper cutting, wood carving, lacquer and traditional papers.

In the Category for VUFA students, the first prize was given to Nguyễn Hoàng Nam for his artwork Những Mảnh Ghép (The Puzzle Pieces). The second and third prizes were given to Nguyễn Thị Hoàng Oanh for Biển Trời Hạ Long (Hạ Long Sky and Sea), and Hoàng Huệ Phương’s Đám Rước (Bride Welcoming Ceremony), respectively.

Member of the judging panel, Wee Wei Ling, Executive Director of Sustainability Partnerships, Lifestyle, and Asset of Pan Pacific Hotels Group was impressed by the quality of submissions from all artists. She has emphasised that PPHG corporate social responsibility is manifested in three aspects: People, Sustainability and Art.

An on-going exhibition showcasing 16 winning artworks are taking place at the main Lobby of Pan Pacific Hanoi, 1 Thanh Niên Road, Ba Đình Distritc, until April 10. — VNS
