Athletes will compete in two events: Yoga Asana for 54 sets of medals in three age groups (under 18, between 20 and 40; and over 40); and Yoga Flow artful mass performance for 18 sets of medals in three groups (three people; five people and 10 people).

“After the success of the International Yoga Championship in India, we continue to host the International Yoga Asana & Flow Yoga Arena Championship 2023 in Thailand,” said Võ Hồng Yến, chairperson of the YSK. “The event brings Vietnamese people to connect and exchange and create a healthy playground to meet the demands of yoga lovers in the world.”

“The event will select the most talented yoga athletes and bring yoga closer to more people,” she said.

People’s Artist Vũ Ngoạn Hợp, head of the championship’s jury, said Flow Yoga is a new event at the championship.

“This time, groups will perform flow yoga with music,” he said. “I have seen that competitors have been more carefully selected with better techniques."

According to Đặng Thị Hồng Nhung, Vice chairperson and General Secretary of Việt Nam Yoga Federation, the organisers want to make yoga a professional competing event as the sport is already a mass competition event in the world and in Việt Nam.

“Through competing events hosted by the Việt Nam Yoga Federation and Yoga Song Khoe, instructions have gradually been perfected, while criteria for judging and standard movements and posing postures have been formed for official competing championships,” she said.

“Yoga is an easy kind of sport and suitable for all ages. This is activity that can boost the development of the sports economy,” she said. VNS
