HCM CITY — The HCM City Film Cultural House is launching an exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Việt Nam’s revolutionary cinema industry (March 15, 1953-2023).

The exhibition displays more than 200 photos on the history and development of Việt Nam’s revolutionary cinema industry, along with President Hồ Chí Minh with artists and workers in the industry.

The displayed works also highlight the Việt Nam Film Festival, which was initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1970 and organised every two or three years.

Through 22 festivals, the organiser gave Golden Lotus Awards to 130 featured films, documentaries and animated works such as Trận Mộc Hóa (the Mộc Hoá Batlle), the first documentary released in 1948, Chung Một Dòng Sông (On the Same River), the first featured film in 1959, and Đáng Đời Thằng Cáo (Fox, You Deserve It), and the first animation in 1960.

A free screening of these films is offered at the event as well.

The exhibition also presents portraits of filmmakers and actors who have made great contributions to the development of the country’s cinema industry, such as Bùi Đình Hạc, Hồng Sến and Trà Giang.

Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, deputy head of the Việt Nam Film Institute, said the organiser expected the exhibition would provide useful and interesting information about Việt Nam’s cinema industry to the public, and help students and young people learn more about the country’s history.

The exhibition is currently open at the University of Culture in Thủ Đức City until April 6. — VNS
