HCM CITY — Pop star Thu Minh and 30 artists in music, dance and theatre from HCM City perform in the TV music show titled Gala Nhạc Việt – Tết Vui (Vietnamese Music Gala – Happy Lunar New Year), which will be released this week.
The show celebrates Tết (Lunar New Year), which begins on January 22. A set of two DVDs with a special 2023 calendar featuring famous singers, dancers and theatre performers will be issued.
Minh sings songs in praise of love and youth.
She and young singer Ali Hoàng Dương perform Ngày Mùa Xuân Vừa Ghé (Spring Day Comes), a production by musician Châu Đăng Khoa.
The lyrics for the songs combine pop and dance with Vietnamese folk music.
“Music in the show Gala Nhạc Việt – Tết Vui sends best wishes to Vietnamese at home and abroad during Tết,” said Minh, winner of the HCM City Television Singing Contest in 1993.
Minh began her career in HCM City after her first top prize at the HCM City Television Singing Contest in 1993, and soon became famous for her beauty and strong voice.
She has released 10 albums and 15 music videos. She has also won several top prizes for Best Female Singer and Best Music Video of the Year from prestigious organisations, including the Voice of HCM City People and Thể Thao & Văn Hoá (Sports&Culture) newspaper under Vietnam News Agency.

In the show Gala Nhạc Việt – Tết Vui, female singers Bảo Anh, Ái Phương, Sunny Hạ Linh and Lime sing romantic melodies to dance and electronic music. Famous songs about Tết and traditional culture and lifestyles are featured.
Dances and theatrical performances featuring famous comic artist Trấn Thành are also included.
“Through Gala Nhạc Việt – Tết Vui, we hope to bring Vietnamese music to fans in the world during Tết,” said the show’s producer and singer Hồ Ngọc Hà.
Hà began her singing career in 2004 after working as a model. She performed pop, dance and rap music, and became a phenomenon.
She performed in the Asia Song Festival in Seoul in 2009.
She organised concert tours in Đà Nặng, Hà Nội and HCM City, and the US, Australia, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Gala Nhạc Việt – Tết Vui will be released on Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes on January 6. — VNS
