AN GIANG — Cracks appeared on part of National Highway No 91 along the Hậu River in Bình Mỹ Commune, Châu Phú District, the southern province of An Giang on Saturday, posing high risk of land erosion along the river.
As of yesterday morning, the cracks remained 30 metres long but their width had increased from 1 cm to 2 cm. Two houses and two cafeterias are in the affected area and local authorities evacuated people and their assets to safety.
In 2010, land erosion was reported 100 metres away from the new cracks.
Visiting the affected area yesterday, chairman of An Giang Province People’s Committee Nguyễn Thanh Bình asked agencies to install warning signs and re-direct traffic to limit people and vehicles travelling through the area.
He also asked agencies to closely follow the development of road cracks. — VNS
