LÀO CAI — The Lào Cai Department of Natural Resources and Environment has proposed the provincial People’s Committee fine three chemical enterprises for violating regulations on environmental protection.
The three enterprises, all in the Tằng Loong Industrial Zone, are proposed to be fined VNĐ830 million (US$36,800).
After different inspections last month, the provincial environmental sector discovered that several workshops of the Vinachem Joint Stock Company, the Lào Cai Apromaco Superphosphate Co Ltd and the Phúc Lâm Chemical Joint Stock Company violated regulations on environmental protection.
They did not follow proper procedures for environmental protection, did not install automatic exhaust fumes checking systems and did not build stores to contain harmful waste.
The three enterprises promised to address the violations within the month.
The Tằng Loong Industrial Zone is a hot spot of pollution in Lào Cai northern mountainous province. Dozens of chemical projects have been seriously affected local residents’ lives.
