ĐỒNG NAI — Đồng Nai People’s Committee has fined the subsidiary of a Malaysian company VNĐ9.7 billion (US$415,232) for illegally burying waste.

Chin Well Fasteners Việt Nam Ltd Co in Nhơn Trạch District has been reported to have dumped 1,600 tonnes of muddy substances containing chemicals at four separate spots.

An initial examination has found that the earth around the spots has been contaminated.

The inspection team has taken samples for further examination.

Authorities also said that the company was responsible for cleaning up the sites.

However, there was insufficient basis for criminal charges, announced Colonel Nguyễn Văn Thọ from Đồng Nai’s police force on Tuesday.

Đồng Nai authorities are overseeing the clean up.

In July 2016, Chin Well Fasteners Việt Nam was also caught dumping untreated sewage. — VNS
