HÀ NỘI  The People’s Committee of Hà Nội’s Hoài Đức District are adopting stern measures against concrete mixing plants operating illegally in the district.

At a conference yesterday, vice chairman of the committee Đỗ Đức Trung said there were 25 concrete mixing plants located in the An Khánh, Vân Côn, Lại Yên and Vân Canh communes, polluting the environment and affecting water sources.

Trung said the committee had conducted inspections at all local concrete mixing plants and fined violators more than VNĐ800 million (US$35,800).

Most lacked the mandatory certificates such as the construction certificate, underground water exploitation licence and wastewater discharge licence.

The representatives of the violators were tasked with quickly resolving the violations. Stern measures will be applied against these plants, including shutting off the electricity supply of those who ignored or delayed the work.

Trung said the district was not among the city’s localities designated for producing construction materials; rather, it was a residential development area. Thus, the presence of illegal concrete mixing plants would pose a risk to the residents and seriously pollute the environment. — VNS
