HÀ NỘI — Collection of toll fees on Bạch Đằng Bridge connecting the northern coastal province of Quảng Ninh and the port city of Hải Phòng will start at the beginning of October.

According to Bạch Đằng Bridge BOT JSC, the lowest toll fee would be VNĐ35,000 (US$1.5) for under 12-seater vehicles and under two-tonne trucks and public buses. The highest toll fee would be VNĐ180,000 ($7.7) for trucks with freight from 18 tonnes upwards and 40-feet containers.

The company was to begin trial operations today, it said.

As many as 11,000 vehicles crossed the bridge each day, according to the company.

Opening to traffic on September 1, the bridge links the triangular economic corridor of Hà Nội-Hải Phòng-Quảng Ninh.

Constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer model at a cost of VNĐ7.3 trillion ($313 million), the 5.4km bridge, spanning the Bạch Đằng River, will help shorten the distance between Hà Nội and Quảng Ninh from 175km to 125km as well as cutting travel time between the two localities by half. — VNS
