AN GIANG — The Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) and Sun Group have identified Phú Quốc as a priority for cooperation in energy, aviation fuel, green infrastructure, and tourism and aviation services as Việt Nam prepares to host APEC 2027.

The partnership comes as Việt Nam prepares to host APEC 2027, with Phú Quốc Island selected to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

The two companies will combine their respective strengths in energy supply, distribution and logistics with Sun Group’s ecosystem in aviation, tourism, infrastructure and services.

The deal is expected to support preparations for APEC 2027 while creating infrastructure and service models that can continue to benefit Phú Quốc after the event.

The agreement covers three major areas.

The first is an integrated energy supply chain, including petroleum products, petrochemical products, gas, aviation fuel, and green energy infrastructure.

The second involves cooperation in finance, banking, and insurance, while the third focuses on developing a customer experience ecosystem through cooperation in customer services, trade, payments, branding, and digital platforms.

In the energy sector, Petrolimex and its member companies will study the supply of stable, long-term supplies of energy products for Sun Group’s investment, construction, and operational activities.

The two sides will also explore policies allowing customers, partners and employees to access products and services across their respective ecosystems.

Nguyễn Mạnh Quân, deputy general director of Sun Group and general director of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, said cooperation between a leading State-owned energy enterprise and a private group operating in tourism, aviation, infrastructure, and services could create new value chains.

He said the partnership is expected not only to contribute to the successful organisation of APEC 2027 but also to generate long-term value for Việt Nam’s development.

Green transition

Petrolimex Aviation and Sun PhuQuoc Airways have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in aviation fuel supply and study the development of fuel infrastructure at airports.

Green energy is another priority, with Phú Quốc identified as an initial area for research and implementation.

The two groups plan to study solutions for energy efficiency, electric vehicle charging stations, rooftop solar power, and integrated energy services at suitable Sun Group projects.

They also agreed to expand cooperation in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at group level, including research into solutions to promote the energy transition and reduce emissions in aviation.

The development of SAF could become increasingly relevant as aviation demand grows and the tourism sector seeks to reduce its environmental footprint.

For Phú Quốc, cooperation in green energy and aviation fuel is expected to complement broader efforts to develop the island as a modern tourism and international event destination.

The companies said specific programmes and projects would be considered based on their efficiency, commercial conditions, and legal regulations.
