HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam imported 25,609 complete automobiles of all types with a total value of US$579.2 million in June 2026, an increase of 7.9 per cent in volume and 5.8 per cent in value compared to the previous month, data from the Customs Department showed.

The growth was mainly driven by two high-demand vehicle groups of passenger cars under nine seats and transport vehicles, of which the first reached 17,975 units, an increase of 9.1 per cent compared to the previous month and accounting for over 70 per cent of total imports. Trucks recorded the strongest increase with 4,789 units, up 19.2 per cent in volume and 25.6 per cent in value.

Conversely, imports of other types of automobiles reached 2,840 units, down 11.8 per cent compared to the previous month, while only five vehicles with more than nine seats were imported.

Regarding the import market, Indonesia continued to be the largest supplier of complete automobiles to Việt Nam in June with 11,608 units, up 2.7 per cent compared to the previous month. Thailand ranked second with 7,186 units, up 21.9 per cent, followed by China with 5,699 units, up 4.7 per cent.

In total, these three markets supplied 24,493 vehicles, equivalent to 96 per cent of the total number of complete automobiles imported into Việt Nam in the month.

In the passenger car segment (under nine seats) alone, imports from China surged by 219 per cent, reaching 884 units. Meanwhile, imports from Thailand reached 4,578 units, up 15.7 per cent, and imports from Indonesia reached 11,598 units, up 2.6 per cent.

For trucks, Thailand and China continued to be the two main suppliers, with 2,605 and 2,025 units respectively, accounting for nearly 97 per cent of total truck imports in the month.

In the first six months of 2026, Việt Nam imported 121,189 complete automobiles of all types with a total value of $2.87 billion, an increase of 18 per cent in volume and 28.9 per cent in value compared to the same period in 2025.

Of the total, passenger cars with fewer than 9 seats accounted for 80,487 units, an increase of 2.8 per cent, while transport vehicles reached 22,668 units, a significant increase of 83.8 per cent, reflecting the continued high demand for additional vehicles to serve production, transportation, and logistics. — BIZHUB/VNS
