HÀ NỘI — The market rebounded on Thursday after seven consecutive sessions of downward adjustment, as buying demand strengthened sharply in the afternoon and helped the VN-Index reverse and reclaim the 1,830-point level.
The VN-Index, representing the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HoSE), rose 12.54 points, or 0.69 per cent, to close at 1,831.55 points.
Before the market opened, VPBank Securities (VPX) said that if the 1,800-point zone can be maintained, it may allow the VN-Index to form a consolidation base before fresh signals emerge.
The session breadth was reported to tilt positively, with 140 stocks gaining and 164 declining. Trading activity remained strong. Total volume across the exchange exceeded 601 million shares, with trading value across the market reaching over VNĐ22 trillion (US$839.8 million).
The 30 biggest stocks tracker, the VN30 Index, also gained 7.69 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 1,982.29 points. Within the VN30 index, 19 stocks increased while ten ticked down and one ended flat.
Vingroup (VIC) was the biggest contributor to today's recovery, gaining 1.32 per cent and adding over 4.3 points to the VN-Index.
It was followed by Sacombank (STB), Vinhomes (VHM) and BIDV (BID), up 6.51 per cent, 1.08 per cent and 1.79 per cent, respectively.
Notably, the energy group was the main force supporting the market's rise, with the sector index increasing 3.87 per cent, the highest among all industry groups.
In particular, Petrolimex (PLX) hit its ceiling gain, while others also performed well, with Petrovietnam Refining And Petrochemical Corporation (BSR) climbing 3.77 per cent, PV Drilling (PVD) up 2.5 per cent, PV Oil (OIL) rising 2.04 per cent and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS) up 1.3 per cent.
In contrast, on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index dropped 12.62 points, or nearly 4 per cent, to 304.86 points. This correction snapped its remarkable 18-day winning streak. Investors poured over VNĐ 779.4 billion on the northern bourse, equal to a trading volume of nearly 47.8 million shares.
The market also focused on foreign flow today, as foreign investors net sold nearly VNĐ5.8 trillion on HoSE, with VIC seeing a net selling value of nearly VNĐ5 trillion. — BIZHUB/VNS
