HÀ NỘI — The northeastern province of Quảng Ninh will hand over 4.9 hectares of cleared land to the investor of the Quảng Ninh LNG Power Plant project before August 11.
After that, as more land is cleared, it will be handed over to the investor accordingly.
This was a requirement from the leadership of the the provincial People's Committee at a meeting held on Wednesday afternoon to address difficulties and obstacles related to site clearance for the LNG power plant project and several projects in the coal industry.
The Quảng Ninh LNG Power Plant project includes a 1,500 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant, a 500 kV distribution yard, infrastructure, technical facilities, and an LNG import terminal capable of handling 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year.
Once operational, the project is expected to add approximately nine billion kWh of electricity per year to the national power grid, contributing to energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and generating about VNĐ57.7 trillion (US$2.2 billion) for the local budget over 25 years.
According to the report at the meeting, the Quảng Ninh LNG Power Plant project covers a total area of 41.12 hectares, of which 4.9 hectares have been cleared.
For the remaining land, Cửa Ông Ward is completing the necessary steps for compensation, support, resettlement and land acquisition to hand over the land to the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Area II and the project investor.
After hearing the progress report, the leadership of the provincial People's Committee requested the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Area II to hand over 4.9 hectares to the investor before August 11, reported by Đầu tư (Investment) online newspaper.
They also requested that the process of handing over land to the investor be accelerated as site clearance progresses.
Regarding the project's water surface area, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade were asked to assist the investor in completing the procedural dossiers and tracking the progress to hand over the water surface to the investor next month.
Cửa Ông Ward was urged to promptly complete the site clearance process to hand over the remaining land to the investor in the third quarter of this year.
Quảng Ninh currently has seven operating coal-fired power plants with a total capacity of 5,640 MW. These thermal power plants play a crucial role in providing electricity for production and daily life.
In the trend of transitioning to clean energy, the province's first liquefied natural gas power project, once completed and operational, will contribute to the policy of shifting the development model from 'brown' to 'green'. — VNS
