HÀ NỘI — Thanh Hà lychees have been exported to many markets home and abroad.
The Việt Nam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Department of Industry and Trade of Hải Dương Province and the People's Committee of Thanh Hà District organised a conference to promote the consumption of Thanh Hà lychees and the provincial agricultural products on Thursday.
The conference was also held online for Vietnamese trade offices abroad and foreign businesses.
Vũ Thị Kim Phượng, deputy director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, said lychee was one of eight key agricultural products of the province with a 8,850 hectares of lychees, with Thanh Hà District alone containing 3,285 hectares of lychees.
Every year, lychee output in the whole province is between 55,000-60,000 tonnes. However, due to weather effects, the province's lychee output is estimated to reach 40,000-45,000 tonnes this year.
Hải Dương has 52 lychee growing areas certified for production according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP. There are 41 VietGAP regions with a total area of 110 hectares, of which Thanh Hà District alone has 37 regions.
The entire province currently has 198 growing area codes eligible for export; of which, Thanh Hà has 167.
Along with the domestic market, Thanh Hà lychee has been exported to markets including China, Japan, Japan, France, the US, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan (China), Belgium, Netherlands, Thailand, Singapore and the Middle East.
At the conference, Vietnamese business offices abroad informed about the needs and trends of importing agricultural products, including lychees, in these markets and made recommendations for ministries, branches, businesses and Hải Dương Province.
With lychee products, delegates said it was necessary to maintain stable product quality; improve packaging and preservation technology for exported fresh lychees, reduce logistics costs to improve competitiveness and innovate trade promotion forms.
Fresh lychee orders to Japan and Australia both grew every year and were expected to continue to increase this year, said Mai Xuân Thìn, director of Rồng Đỏ Manufacturing, Trading and Service Co, Ltd. The business expects to bring lychees to the Canadian market this year.
Nguyễn Khắc Tiến, chairman of the board of directors of Ameii Việt Nam Joint Stock Company, said that the business has co-operated with the agricultural industry and the locality to prepare early to have quality products that meet the import markets' requirements.
Lê Hoàng Tài, Vietrade deputy director, said that it has had many support activities for agricultural import and export enterprises in recent times such as providing information on policies, trends, and market opportunities.
In the future, the agency will continue to support Hải Dương Province in product development and trade connections in lychee consumption in particular and agricultural products in general.
