AN GIANG — The Mekong Delta province of An Giang on March 27 exported 18 tonnes of acacia (Keo) mangoes to the Republic of Korea.

This was the first batch of mangoes exported to South Korea under a contract signed between Long Bình Agriculture Cooperative in An Phú District and Hoàng Phát Fruit Ltd Co.

Trang Công Cường, chairman of the An Phú District People’s Committee, said Việt Nam has spent more than 10 years negotiating the export of local mangoes to South Korea and other demanding markets in the world. An Phú District's authorities, businesses, cooperatives and farmers have made great efforts to export mangoes to this market.

This official emphasised that local authorities will promote supports for enterprises and farmers to build stable material areas, develop sustainable value chains, and accelerate the issuance of codes for remaining mango growing areas.

They will also coordinate with fruit exporting companies to survey other mango orchards to sign export contracts.

An Giang Province has more than 12,000 ha of land growing mango, including 1,860 ha in An Phú District. This district has over 354 ha of mango farming in line with GlobalGAP standards.
