HÀ NỘI — Local cultivation and plant protection authorities and relevant agencies must prepare a list of growing areas and packaging facilities registering to export fresh coconut and frozen durian to China before April 1.
With this list, Việt Nam can export soon those coconut and durian products to China after it is allowed official export of those products to this huge neighbouring market, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection will work with localities' sub-department of cultivation and plant protection to review and evaluate the growing areas and the packaging facilities for those products.
They also prepare equipment and machinery meeting the plant quarantine and food safety requirements of the importing country.
Vietnamese fresh durian was officially exported to China from July 2022. Thanks to that, the fresh durian export turnover in 2023 reached a record high at about US$2.3 billion.
Đặng Phúc Nguyên, general secretary of the Việt Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said if official export of frozen durian to China is allowed, Việt Nam's durian export turnover is expected to increase 30 per cent each year.
In 2024, Việt Nam's fruit and vegetable exports are anticipated to boom if its fresh coconuts and frozen durians are exported to China. — VNS
