By 2030, Bắc Giang aims to achieve stability and growth in its pig herds, targeting a range of 1-1.2 million heads.

HÀ NỘI — Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bắc Giang, Dương Thanh Tùng, said that the province will focus on developing livestock in the direction of industrial application of high technology and organic livestock.

By 2030, Bắc Giang aims to achieve stability and growth in its pig herds, targeting a range of 1-1.2 million heads. This development will be concentrated primarily in districts with high pig herd growth rates, including Tân Yên, Lạng Giang, Hiệp Hòa, Việt Yên, and Lục Ngạn. The projected fresh meat output for the province is estimated to be 180,000 tons. Bắc Giang plans to foster large-scale concentrated farming in both industrial and semi-industrial forms, focusing on ensuring food safety and hygiene. This initiative is expected to contribute to about 80 per cent of the total pig herd in the province.

In addition, Bắc Giang develops large-scale concentrated poultry farms according to industrial and semi-industrial farming methods, ensuring disease safety and biosecurity.

By 2030, the province's total poultry herd will reach 22 - 25 million, of which the total chicken population is about 19-20 million, concentrated mainly in the districts of Yên Thế, Tân Yên, Lục Nam, Hiệp Hòa, Lục Ngạn, Lạng Giang, Sơn Động, etc.; fresh meat output is over 50,000 tonnes, 300 million eggs.

In recent years, Bắc Giang province's livestock industry has always been in the top 10 provinces and cities with the most significant livestock herds in the country.

The livestock industry of Bắc Giang province is making a substantial shift towards reducing the rate of small-scale livestock farming and increasing concentrated farm-scale livestock farming; transitioning from livestock production to livestock economic development; developing sustainable livestock; increasing added value; and expanding closed-loop livestock farming.

The province has 21 pig-raising areas with a total herd of 1.5 million pigs, of which 10 apply high technology; 33 chicken-raising regions with an entire herd of 24.5 million chickens, 14 of which use high technology. Bắc Giang has 23 buffalo and cow-raising areas with a whole herd of 107,700 heads (32,600 buffaloes; 75,100 cows), 18 goat farming areas with a total herd of 50,900 heads, etc.

In addition to the four main livestock species: pigs, poultry, buffaloes, and cows, the province also develops a variety of livestock specialities specific to each locality's advantages, such as raising honey bees, raising white horses in Lục Ngạn, raising goats in Yên Thế, Lục Nam, etc.

In 2023, the livestock industry of Bắc Giang province is estimated to reach an output of over 259,000 tonnes of fresh meat. VNS
