HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of National Defence has appointed colonel Nguyễn Thanh Nam as the deputy general director of Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group.

Nam joined Viettel in 2004 as one of first telecom network technicians in the group. He directly participated in building the first military fibre optical transmission line (1A backbone).

He held different positions at the group such as general director of Viettel Network Corporation and head of the group’s planning department. Before being appointed as Viettel’s deputy general director, he was deputy general director of Viettel Global JSC cum general director of Viettel Myanmar (Mytel).

He made a great contribution to bring Mytel to three million subscribers in Myanmar after only three months of operation. This has been a historic growth rate in the world’s telecom industry.

He will be in charge of human resources, training, the business customers department, network security and cyberspace at Viettel.

After the appointment, Viettel now has five people on its management board including the chairman cum general director and four deputy general directors.

Viettel also had high-ranking leadership changes at its three companies. Major Cao Anh Sơn, director of Star Telecom – a Viettel joint venture in Laos – was appointed as acting general director of Viettel Telecom.

Lieutenant Colonel Đào Xuân Vũ, former deputy general director of Viettel Network Corporation, would hold the position of acting general director of the corporation.

Captain Hoàng Văn Ngọc, former general director of Natcom, Viettel’s brand in Haiti, will hold the position of director of Viettel IDC. — VNS
