HCM CITY — Nestlé has been recognised as a Global Compact LEAD company by the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, for demonstrating ongoing commitment to it and its ten principles for responsible business.

Christian Frutiger, global head, public affairs, Nestlé, said: "The key to the long-term success of our company is to create value for our shareholders and society. We are proud to be a LEAD company."

Nestlé joined the UN Global Compact in 2001.

The company said its priorities are areas where its business interests align with those of society, like nutrition, especially for children, developing resilient rural communities and conserving natural resources, especially water.

In Việt Nam, it has consistently worked towards these principles, it said.

It cited the Nescafé Plan launched in 2011, which it said has helped participating farmers in the Central Highlands region increase their incomes by 30 per cent and their yields by 20 per cent, and save water by 40 per cent and reduce fertiliser use by 20 per cent. — VNS
