Students across the country have eagerly returned to school after a three-month break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the clock is ticking now.

Students now have to race against time to study to complete this school year quickly and get ready for next year.

Most teachers will have to do without a holiday this school year and will keep working until the opening ceremony for the new school year; unless Nguyễn Quốc Kỳ has anything to say about it.

The general director of Viettravel recently proposed the Ministry of Education and Training let students have a one-month holiday to promote domestic tourism.

The holiday would be from the middle of August to the middle of September, he said.

Kỳ said that the month could be an important period to develop tourism and help the tourism sector get back on its feet.

Emphasising that the tourism sector had suffered serious damage from the COVID-19 pandemic, Kỳ said the holiday would be an important supportive measure.

While teachers and students may welcome another break, parents across the country are likely praying to every deity imaginable the proposal gets shot down. — VNS
