JAKARTA — Prabowo Subianto was sworn in as the eighth President of Indonesia, and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Vice President at a ceremony held at the Nusantara Building in the Senayan legislative complex in Jakarta on Sunday.
More than 30 heads of state and high-ranking leaders of other countries attended the event. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân.
In his inaugural address, Prabowo said he will prioritise the interests of the Indonesian people, even those not voting for him, calling on the people to stay united to make the development dream come true.
He pledged that the Indonesian Government’s leadership is not for any individuals or groups, but for the people and the country’s highest interests.
Prabowo Subianto, born in 1951, is a politician and a former military general. He is the founder and leader of the Gerindra Party.
He ran for the presidency thrice, in 2014, 2019 and 2024, and eventually won this year’s election with 58 per cent of the votes.
The new Cabinet of Indonesia is expected to be announced later the same day. — VNA/VNS
