HÀ NỘI - Midfielder and captain Trần Phi Sơn of HCM City has been voted one of the top five players of the first two rounds of fixtures in the 2020 AFC Cup’s ASEAN and West Zones by the the-afc.com.

HCM City are undefeated through two matches in the AFC Cup group stage thanks to the impressive performance of striker Nguyễn Công Phượng, Amido Balde and Sơn.

Phượng and Balde have scored five goals for the 2019 V.League 1 runners-up, but Sơn really caught the eye.

“After playing a part in the Vietnamese side’s maiden AFC Cup goal in the 2-2 draw against Yangon United, the midfielder truly came to light on matchday two,” said the website.

“Sơn’s pinpoint deliveries into the box created all three of HCM City goals in a 3-2 away victory at Singapore’s Hougang United as the V.League 1 club moved to the top of the standings,” the website added.

The 27-year-old now has more assists than any other player after two games, while he is also second in the chances created charts with 10.
