HÀ NỘI — Defender Đoàn Văn Hậu came second in the AFC Youth Player of the Year at the 2019 AFC Annual Awards on Monday in Hong Kong.

The Vietnamese international finished behind attacking midfielder Lee Kang-in of South Korea.

Lee, 18, took his award after his exceptional form in the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup which saw the South Korea taking a silver in Brazil.

He currently plays in Spain for the Valencia B-team.

Hậu was shortlisted following his outstanding performance for the national team and the U23 squads as well as his efforts with Hà Nội FC Club in the V.League 1 and the AFC Cup. 

The 20-year-old now plays in Holland with SC Heerenveen. He is currently competing at the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.

Hiroki Abe of Japan, 20, was third. The left winger for FC Barcelona B team in Spain. — VNS
