HÀ NỘI — Bình Điền Long An defeated Đức Giang Hà Nội 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-15) in the first round of Group A of the women’s side at the National Volleyball Championship in the northern province of Ninh Bình on Wednesday.

Although coach Nguyễn Quốc Vũ of Long An used young players, his team still dominated from the first set thanks to excellent teamwork, with Dương Thị Hên shining in particular with 19 points.

In other matches, LienVietPostBank, the runners-up of last year’s event, beat Đắk Lắk 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19).

Vĩnh Long Television also made a surprise following a 3-1 win against Tiến Nông Thanh Hóa.

On the men’s side, HCM City beat Biên Phòng 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23) and Sanest Khánh Hòa defeated Vĩnh Long 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 20-25, 25-21).

In the Group B of the men’s side, Thể Công defeated Long An 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15), while Tràng An Ninh Bình beat Bình Dương 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18).

Twenty men’s and women’s teams are taking part in the National Volleyball Championships.

The first round is taking place in Bắc Ninh Province (Group A) and Ninh Bình (Group B) from April 3-7; the second round and finals will be held in Long An Province from October 6 to 20.

The annual event has total prize money of VNĐ436 million (US$18,950), of which the winners will walk away with VNĐ100 million ($4,350). — VNS
