HÀ NỘI — Struggling Becamex Bình Dương grabbed their first win in the Asian Football Confederation Cup beating Shan United 2-1 in the third round match of Group G yesterday in Yangon.

The former V.League champions travelled to Yangon without some key players including striker Nguyễn Tiến Linh. They also had to adjust with acting coach Nguyễn Thanh Sơn who replaced Trần Minh Chiến following his sudden resignation.

Bình Dương set out to play for a draw, but secured victory thanks to goals from Tô Văn Vũ and Wander Luiz in the second half.

Hadipo Gustavo levelled for the hosts, but it was not enough.

Vũ cam close in the 15th minute while David Htan of Shan United was unable to beat Bình Dương goalkeeper Trần Đức Cường from 20m.

Vũ made the difference five minutes after the interval to cut in from the left wing and find the back of the net.

The visitors had chances to increase the gap but Lê Tấn Tài and Luiz failed to beat Myo Min Latt.

From a counter-attack from the right wing ball, Gustavo was given a free header to nod home.

Luiz finally converted one of many chances in the 85th minute.

Bình Dương are in third position and maintain hopes of advancing to the next round. Shan United have failed to win in three matches.

Bình Dương will host Shan United at home in two weeks time at the Gò Đậu Stadium.

In the other match in the group, Filipino Ceres Negros defeated Persija Jakarta of Indonesia 1-0 with a goal from Bienvenido Maranon in the ninth minute.

Ceres Negros top the table with three wins, followed by Persija Jakarta with one win, one draw and one loss. They will meet again on April 23 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. — VNS
