HÀ NỘI -- Hà Nội FC scored either side of half time to lift their second Super Cup on Saturday at  Hàng Đẫy Stadium.

Nigerian Hoàng Vũ Samson netted both goals against Becamex Bình Dương in this season’s curtain raiser.

With home advantage, Hà Nội FC were the faster out of the blocks and despite resting many of their key players, never looked like losing.

Just nine minutes into the game, Samson found himself unmarked in the box after good work down the right flank to head home and give his side the advantage at the interval.

Just past the hour mark, Samson was again in the right place at the right time to tap home from close range and put the game beyond the team from the south.

Bình Dương’s best chances fell at the feet of strikers Nguyễn Anh Đức and Sỹ Giáp but both were found wanting in front of goal.

It was Hà Nội’s second Super Cup win after their first in 2010. Manager Chu Đình Nghiêm was proud of his players after the final whistle.

"I am happy with what they did tonight. All of them did good jobs, especially Samson with two goals," said Nghiêm.

"The Super Cup match is considered the kick-off of the national football season. This win will be a good start for us. We have set high goals for both local and international tournaments this year," he said.

Nghiêm and his players will compete in the AFC Champions League’s play-off match against Shandong Luneng of China on February 19.

"We want to go as far as possible at the continental competition. We are ready for Shandong Luneng," he said.
