HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam finished second out of 60 countries and territories at the 18th World Pencak Silat Championship, which concluded in Singapore on Sunday.
The team brought home six gold medals, three silvers and four bronzes.
The gold medallists were Trần Thị Thêm in the women’s 55kg, Hoàng Thị Loan Huy in the women’s 60kg, Quàng Thị Thu Nghĩa in the women’s 75kg and Phạm Văn Tý Huy in the men’s 80kg. Nguyễn Duy Tuyến took gold in the men’s 85kg after beating Muhammad Syakir Bin Jeffery of Singapore and Lê Văn Toàn defeated Kistian Pamungkas of Indonesia to bag a gold medal in the men’s over 85kg.
The host nation Singapore triumphed in the event with seven gold medals.
More than 300 athletes from at least 40 countries competed in the four-day tournament, which was organised by Singapore Silat Federation and Aladdin Street Singapore. This is the third time Singapore has hosted the Championship. — VNS
