Việt Nam male team tied with Georgia 2 2-2 in the sixth round at the ongoing 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia on Sunday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s male team tied with Georgia 2-2 in the sixth round at the ongoing 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia on Sunday.

Grandmasters Lê Quang Liêm (Elo 2715) and Nguyễn Anh Khôi (Elo 2463) drew with their rivals Luka Paichadze (Elo 2564) and Irakli Beradze (Elo 2495), respectively, while Trần Tuấn Minh (Elo 2491) was defeated by Tornike Sanikizde (Elo 2497).

However, Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn (Elo 2620) defeated Davit Maghalashvili to help the Vietnamese side draw 2-2.

After six rounds, Việt Nam are in 25th position with three wins, two draws and one loss.

In the next round, Việt Nam will meet the Canadian team, who rank 28th.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese female team had a successful day in the sixth round, securing a 4-0 victory over Wales.

As the winner of all four rounds, young chess player Bạch Ngọc Thùy Dương was considered the best Vietnamese female chess player at the competition.
