HÀ NỘI — U16 Việt Nam bid goodbye to the ASEAN Confederation Cup (AFC) U16 Championship after losing 0-5 to U16 Iran late Thursday night in Malaysia.

Iran easily took advantage of their counter-attack opportunities to score two goals early in the game.

While rising up to strike back, Việt Nam left many holes in its defence line, and while captain Tiến Long got a red card, Doustali scored one goal for Iran in penalties.

Before the first half ended, Azizi notched one more goal to bolster Iran’s score.

In the second half, Iran gained one last goal at 63 minutes, while Việt Nam failed to find an opening.

U16 Việt Nam is ranked at the bottom after two losses and one draw.

“We obviously had little hope of success but we still hope U16 India and U16 Indonesia will play equally,” said head coach Vũ Hồng Việt. — VNS
