HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese players lost to stronger opponents on Thursday in the fourth day of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad 2018 in Batumi City, Georgia.

In the men’s group, Việt Nam, ranked 27, lost 1.5-2.5 to France team.

Quang Liêm, elo 2,715, drew with world fifth rank grandmaster Vachier-Lagrave Maxime, elo 2,780. Trường Sơn, elo 2,620, also drew with Bacrot Etienne, elo 2,678.

Tuấn Minh, elo 2,491 draw with Edouard Romain, elo 2,646, while young talent Anh Khôi, elo 2,463 lost to Bauer Christian, elo 2,629.

In the women’s group, Việt Nam, ranked 19, lost 1-3 to host Georgia 1.

Thảo Nguyên and Mai Hưng draw with two players of Georgia, while Kim Phụng and Bảo Trâm lost to the rivals. 

They are temporarily ranked 15, and will face Iran’s team, ranked 28, in the fifth match. — VNS
