More than 400 shuttlers to compete in Việt Nam Open

More than 400 professional players from 26 nations and territories will compete in the Yonex – Sunrise Việt Nam Open 2018 in HCM City from August 7-12.

HÀ NỘI — More than 400 professional badminton players from 26 nations and territories will compete in the Yonex – Sunrise Việt Nam Open 2018 in HCM City from August 7-12.

According to deputy head of the Việt Nam Badminton Federation Nguyễn Phương Nam, the level of this year’s tournament will be upgraded from Grand Prix to World Tour Super 100, following the standards of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

The players will compete in five categories, namely men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with total prize money of US$75,000 on offer.

This tournament will feature several high-ranking players, including Brazil’s Ygor Coelho (world No 34), Malaysia’s Daren Liew (No 41) and Vietnamese Nguyễn Tiến Minh (No 55) in the men’s singles, No 12 Savaka Takahashi from Japan in the women’s singles and duo Avako Sakuramoto and Yukiko Takahata in the women’s doubles (No 14).

The event is a prestigious tournament held annually in Việt Nam. Its results are included in the BWF ranking system. — VNS
