HÀ NỘI - Football fans in Việt Nam can breathe a sigh of relief after it was announced the games WILL be broadcast on local television.
Việt Nam Television has signed an agreement to show the competition which kicks off in Russia next Thursday.
Originally, Infront Sports and Media wanted around US$14m for the rights to show the tournament. This price was deemed too high and after lengthy negotiations a deal has been struck.
The amount paid by VTV has not been revealed - but it’s understood to be more than the $7m paid to show the 2014 World Cup from Brazil.
The competition begins on Thursday and runs for one month with the final being played on July 15 in Moscow at the Luzhniki Stadium and will be shown on television in Viet Nam at 10pm.
Other games kick-off local time at 5pm, 7pm, 10pm and 1am. - VNS
