HCM CITY — Members of the HCM City Chess Team won two gold medals at the 2018 National Chess Tournament on June 5.

Nguyễn Huỳnh Minh Huy and Nguyễn Thị Thanh An beat the Kiên Giang team in the mixed doubles category to win one gold in the event, held in the northern province of Bắc Giang.

Meanwhile, in men’s standard chess, the total score of Phạm Chương, Nguyễn Anh Khôi, Nguyễn Quốc Hy and Lê Nguyễn Khôi Nguyên earned another gold for HCM City, and helped elevate the team to 28th in the team rankings, while the Army team stood at 29th.

Hosts Bắc Giang, whose team included Đoàn Thị Vân Anh, Võ Thị Kim Phụng, Hoàng Thị Hải Anh and Nguyễn Thị Thảo Linh, took the gold medal in women’s doubles. The HCM City team finished 33rd out of 34.

The tournament continues with the men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles, with competitions in standard chess, rapid chess, and blitz chess.
