HÀ NỘI — About 135 competitors will take part in the Nhân Dân Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship to be held in Đà Lạt City, Central Highlands province of Lâm Đồng on May 22-27.

The participants come from 14 teams across the country. They will vie for seven sets of medals in the men’s and women’s singles, doubles and team events and the mixed doubles.

The organising committee will also give prizes to the best young male and female players, the event’s miss beauty and prizes for localities which have developed grassroots table tennis.

The event is expected to entertain fans with leading players including Đinh Quang Linh, Mai Hoàng Mỹ Trang, Nguyễn Anh Tú and Trần Tuấn Quỳnh, alongside other young faces.

The draw for the tournament will be held on May 20, two days before competition commences.

At last year’s event, Linh from the Military team defeated Nguyễn Anh Tú of Hà Nội 4-1 in the final to claim the men’s singles title, while HCM City’s Trang successfully defended her women’s singles crown by defeating Hà Nội’s Nguyễn Khoa Diệu Khánh.

The six-day tourney is part of activities to mark the 128th anniversary of President Hồ Chí Minh’s birthday (May 19, 1890), while seeking to promote table tennis nationwide. — VNS
