HÀ NỘI — Five Vietnamese boxers have earned tickets to compete in the finals of the ongoing Asian Women’s Amateur Boxing Championship in HCM City.

They are Lê Thị Bằng, Lừu Thị Duyên, Nguyễn Thị Tâm, Nguyễn Thị Hương and Trần Thị Oanh Nhi.

Bằng will face Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei in the women’s 54kg category. Lin is former champion of the AIBA Women’s Youth World Championship. Duyên will, meanwhile, fight for the gold medal against Oh Yeon Ji from South Korea in the women’s 60kg category.

Tâm will meet Pang Chol Mi of North Korea, who won the gold medal at the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup, where she defeated all her rivals by a large margin in the final of the women’s 51kg division.

The event has attracted 107 boxers from 22 countries and territories, competing in 10 categories from U48kg to over-81kg. It is the first time Việt Nam has hosted the event.

Việt Nam’s best result at the tournament was two silver medals for Ngô Thị Phương (48kg) and Nguyễn Thị Vui (60kg) at the 2008 event. — VNS
