HÀ NỘI — Former world No 8 Mikhail Youzhny will take part in the Challenger Vietnam Open tennis tournament, according to the organisers.

The Russian will vie for a bonus at the US$50,000 tournament, which will be held at HCM City’s Lan Anh Club from October 21.

Youzhny, 35, used to be Russia’s top ranked player and reached his best ranking of world No 8 in 2008.

Youzhny has twice advanced to the semifinals of the US Open — in 2006 and 2010. He has won 10 ATP titles among other prizes. He is currently No 118.

Other noted names participating in the Vietnam Open are former U18 winner Yuki Bhambri of India, who is world No 154; Akira Santillan from Australia (No 164); and Dmitry Popko from Kazakhstan (No 193).

As the hosts, Việt Nam are given several wildcards. National No 1 Lý Hoàng Nam is expected to get one wildcard.
