Three Vietnamese athletes won final berths in the sanda (combat) events at the World Wushu Championship in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday.

HÀ NỘI — Three Vietnamese athletes won final berths in the sanda (combat) events at the World Wushu Championship in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday.

Vũ Minh Đức will fight for a gold medal against Arnel Mandal of the Philippines in the men’s 52kg. Đức defeated Benghenem Abdelkarim of Algeria 2-0, in the semi-finals.

Hoàng Thị Luân will seek her title in the women’s 52kg against Iranian Alaheh Mansoryansamiroumi. Luân beat Brazilian Edinea Prado Camargo 2-0 in the semis. Nguyễn Thị Trang won 2-0 against Ilona Olkhovyk of Ukraine in the last four rounds of the women’s 60kg category. She will now face Cai Yingying of China.

Earlier, their teammate, Nguyễn Thị Thu Thủy, took home a bronze medal in the women’s 56kg event, after losing to China’s Lin Huimin in the semi-finals.

In the taolu (performance) event, Dương Thúy Vi ranked ninth in the women’s jianshu (performance with sword) with 9.40 points, while Trần Xuân Hiệp ranked No 11 in the men’s gunshu (performance with staff) with 9.54 points. Nguyễn Thục Anh placed fourth in the women’s nandao (southern broadsword) with 9.42 points, while Hoàng Thị Phương Giang ranked No. 6 in the women’s daoshu (broadsword) with 9.35 points.

After six days of competitions, Việt Nam now have one gold, two silvers and two bronzes.

The tournament will end on Tuesday. — VNS
