HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Football Federation has invited the South Korean K.League All Star team to compete in a friendly match against the national U22 squad next month.

The match is one of activities scheduled for the U22 players to practise for the Southeast Asian Games in August.

The match will be held at the Hà Nội’s Mỹ Đình Stadium on July 29.

“South Korean football has become popular among the Vietnamese supporters in the recent years. Many Korean football clubs visited Việt Nam and took part in tournaments organised by the VFF. They have made an impression on our fans with their professionalism and competitiveness. So, we believe that the upcoming match between the U22s and the K.League stars will be an attractive game which will help our team in their SEA Games campaign,” said Lê Hoài Anh, general secretary for the VFF.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Hà Nội, Han Oung-soo, general secretary of the K.League, confirmed that the best players competing in South Korea’s highest football tournament would be sent to Việt Nam.

“National players who are competing abroad may not take part in this match. However, those who are playing in the K.League, national team members and foreigners, who are at their peak, will be called for the match,” said Han through an interpreter.

“We will conduct a poll where our fans will be asked to vote for those players they think are the best. Based on the result of the vote, we will select our final team,” he added.

After the match, the U22s will leave for South Korea for a short training course, where they will play three friendlies with local clubs. — VNS
