Two Vietnamese earned their best in the last 32 round of the Seoul Fencing Grand Prix men’s and women’s sabre events yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Two Vietnamese earned their best in the last 32 round of the Seoul Fencing Grand Prix men’s and women’s sabre events yesterday.

The Rio Olympian Vũ Thành An defeated his Hungarian rival Iliasz Nicolasz 15-8 while teammate Nguyễn Xuân Lợi beat French Ballarca Fabien 15-11.

An, ranked 25 in the world, will play world No 5 Daryl Homer of the United States and No 161 Lợi will meet German Matyas Szabo, seeded No 12 in the world.

Three other Vietnamese Tô Đức Anh, Vũ Văn Hùng and the only female fencer Bùi Thị Thu Hà were disqualified.

The South Korean tournament which has seen nearly 250 athletes competing will wrap up today. — VNS
