New tennis president sets target for Việt Nam tennis

Nguyễn Quốc Kỳ was voted president of the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF) following a two-day meeting which ended on March 31.

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Quốc Kỳ was voted president of the Việt Nam Tennis Federation (VTF) following a two-day meeting which ended on March 31.

Kỳ received 100 per cent of the ballots and he will be in charge until 2021, with assistance from three deputy presidents.

In the previous year, Kỳ was the federation’s general secretary.

In the new working term, the general secretary is Đoàn Quốc Cường.

Speaking at the meeting after assuming the new role, Kỳ expressed his determination to push tennis as one of leading sports in Việt Nam.

He said, in the coming years, VTF would try to improve quality of the national team and the junior squads. Potential players would be sent to train abroad. Youth training activities would receive more attention and Vietnamese players living overseas would be invited to compete in domestic events.

The VTF has set a target of winning at least one gold, one silver and one bronze at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia. Further, Vietnamese players would aim to bag one silver and one bronze at the Asian Games next year. — VNS
