VŨNG TÀU — Lee Eunhee from Korea claimed an unexpected victory in the 8th stage of the International Women’s Cycling Tournament Phan Thiết – Vũng Tàu yesterday as Phan Thị Liễu from Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang failed in her attempts to close the gap.

Japanese Miyoko Karami was holding tight to her red and yellow jersey with more than 3 minutes ahead of second place Phetdarin Somrat of Thailand. Karami’s tip top shape almost guaranteed there will be no surprise take-over with just one more stage to go before the end of this year’s tournament.

A fierce team battle, however, continued with Biwase Bình Dương leading with just 51 seconds ahead of Thailand. The last stage of the tournament, the 120km distance Vũng Tàu – Bình Dương which will take place today, is the Thai’s last chance to beat the home team. — VNS
