ĐÀ NẴNG — The Culture and Sports Centre of Thanh Khê District in co-operation with investors has debuted the Đà Nẵng Basketball Development Centre – one of the first well-equipped centres for young basketball lovers in the central city.

The centre, located at 21 Hồ Tương Street, includes a free to use court and a gymnasium for competition and training.

The basketball centre will offer two training courses – one with Vietnamese coaches and coaches from the US – under curriculum from USA Basketball, the governing body for the sport in the US.

The Vietnamese programme will consist of two sessions in the morning and evening from Monday to Sunday.

Meanwhile, the English course will have two sessions on Thursday and Sunday.

The centre will host weekly tournaments, and all matches will be streamed live on the centre’s page (Danang Basketball Development Centre) and Youtube.

According to the Việt Nam Basketball Federation, there are approximately 6,000 amateur players across the country, with 100 playing professionally for eight men’s and five women’s teams.

Although basketball has an Olympic sport since since 1932, the national administration is still reluctant to promote it.

The sport is popular in universities, colleges and amateur clubs throughout the country.
