HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam Football Federation’s (VFF) Deputy General Secretary Dương Nghiệp Khôi will retire on Tuesday, ending his 13 years’ association with the national football community.

One of the most experienced officials in VFF, Khôi cited health reasons for quitting. “I have worked for 13 years for VFF and I have been living away from my family for all these years. Now I am a grandfather and my health is not good enough to continue working. I have asked for retirement and will live with my family in HCM City,” the 59-year-old said.

Khôi’s knowledge and background experience of football is considered outstanding, and he has worked with several VFF heads over the years. He was the head of V.League tournament’s organising committee in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011, and deputy head in 2009 and 2010. He was also head of the U19 squad, who won a slot in the upcoming U20 World Cup in South Korea.

Khôi has wanted to quit for some years now. VFF president Lê Hùng Dũng had been trying to persuade him to stick on till the end of the World Cup event, but Khôi refused. — VNS
