HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese striker Lê Công Vinh will be appointed deputy chairman of HCM City FC, according to Chairman of HCM City Football Federation Trần Anh Tú.
“HCM City FC had planned to recruit Vinh to play for the club in the national premier league 2017, but this plan failed because Vinh decided to retire from competition after finishing the recent ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup. After discussions, the club’s leaders invited him to manage the team,” said Tú.
Vinh also confirmed this news and said it would be officially announced at the club’s send-off ceremony on January 5.
According to Tú, Vinh’s skills and experience will help HCM City FC develop and improve their playing.
Vinh has represented Việt Nam at international tournaments since 2004. The 30-year-old striker has scored 51 goals in 85 appearances for Việt Nam, including an equaliser against Thailand in the second leg of the 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup Final, which helped Việt Nam win the tournament for the first time.
He also scored twice in the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup. — VNS
