VN thrive at Nepal badminton tourney

No 1 seed Nguyễn Thùy Linh spent no sweat to advance to the quarter-finals of the Nepal International Series badminton tournament’s women’s singles in Kathmandu yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — No 1 seed Nguyễn Thùy Linh advanced to the quarter-finals of the Nepal International Series badminton tournament’s women’s singles in Kathmandu yesterday.

Her rival Poonam Gurung of the hosts withdrew minutes before the match.

Linh will play Sichhya Shrestha, also of Nepal, today.

Her teammate Trần Thị Phương Thúy also earned a berth in the last-eight after beating Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail of Moldova 21-15, 21-10. She will meet Nepalese Megha Chand next.

On the men’s side, Việt Nam has two representatives in the quarter-finals.

No 6 seed Phạm Cao Cường will play Mohammad Salman Khan of Bangladesh while No 7 Lê Đức Phát faces Tushar Krishna Roy from Bangladesh. — VNS
