HÀ NỘI — Trần Duy Khôi set a national record at the Short Course World Swimming Championships, which closed in Windsor, Canada on Monday.

Khôi swam in the men’s 200m backstroke and finished fourth in the third qualification heat with a time of 1 min 57.35 sec.

The 19-year-old failed to enter the finals, but his time set a Vietnamese record. The old record of 1:57.72 also belonged to Khôi, which he set in March at the national championships.

It is his third national record set in Canadian competition.

Earlier, Khôi cleared a new bar in the 100m individual medley, timing 55.47 sec on December 9 and clocking 24.98 in the 50m backstroke. However, the latter time was beaten by teammate Lê Nguyễn Paul, who swam a 24.27 shortly after. — VNS
