Nam sets Vietnamese ATP ranking record

Lý Hoàng Nam jumped 18 steps to world No 683 in the men’s singles rankings, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) announced yesterday.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Lý Hoàng Nam jumped 18 spots to world No 683 in the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) men’s singles rankings, announced yesterday.

Another Vietnamese representative, Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên dropped 28 spots to world No 2,002. In the men’s doubles category, Nam ranks 818th, while Thiên ranks 901st. Nam will meet Maxime Tabatruong of France, world No 638 in the first round of the Việt Nam Open today.

Nam, who won the Wimbledon boys’ doubles, aims to break the top 500 this year. 

The Việt Nam Open has total prize money of US$50,000 and features some strong tennis players, including Jaziri Malek of Tunisia, world No 55, Sela Dudi of Israel, world No 70, Daniel Taro of Japan, world No 88 and Jordan Thompson of Australia, world No 95. — VNS
