Việt Nam top two events of Asian Youth Chess Championships

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese masters pocketed two gold medals from the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2026 on July 16 in China.

The first title went to Phạm Trần Gia Phúc in the Boys' U18 rapid chess. He score six points after five wins and two draws to leave all 56 rivals behind.

The second title belonged to his younger teammate Nguyễn Vũ Bảo Châu who topped the Girls' U10 rapid category.

Châu met heavy challenges from Nakshatra Gumudavelly of India and Yedresheva Amaliya of Kazakhstan during the competition. All had same six points but Châu took the gold due to her better rating performance throughout seven matches.

Việt Nam also secured two silvers in the Boys' U18 rapid by Đặng Anh Minh, Boys' U16 rapid by Đầu Khương Duy, Boys' U12 by Phan Lê Hoàng Quân and Girls' U16 rapid by Vũ Nguyễn Bảo Linh.

Their two bronzes were in Girls' U14 and Boys' U12 event.

The tournament features nearly 900 young masters from 31 countries and regions, competing for medals in the categories for age groups ranging from U8 to U18.

After rapid chess, they will take part in the blitz and standard chess.

The tournament will wrap up on July 24. — VNS
