ĐÀ NẴNG – The Newborns Vietnam Run Out, a charity fun run aimed at raising awareness and support for newborns in need of critical medical care, will lead the way for a weekend of events for 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Đà Nẵng.

The competition itself has attracted a record number of participants, marking the 10th anniversary of IRONMAN in Việt Nam and the largest IRONMAN 70.3 multi-sport festival in Southeast Asia.

The event’s organisers, Sunrise Events Vietnam, said the charity fun run, being held on May 9,  would unite the community in helping the most vulnerable.

Children aged five to 15 will begin their tracks at IRONKIDS Viet Nam with aquathlon and triathlon races designed for them on Saturday May 10, along with the return of SUNRISE SPRINT Viet Nam, a welcoming entry point into the world of triathlon.

Athletes will be competing in the SUNRISE SPRINT Viet Nam with a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run, offering newcomers and aspiring triathletes a unique opportunity to challenge themselves and take their first steps into the endurance community.

The organisers also said 3,500 athletes from more than 70 countries and territories will be starting the full  IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang on Sunday May 11.

Triathlon legends Mark Allen and Yee Sze Mun add prestige and historical significance to the weekend, igniting excitement among attendees.

In marking the 10th edition, the triathlon, themed as ‘A Decade of Triumph-where every finish line is a new beginning’, embodies the remarkable resilience, ambition and global connection that has propelled Việt Nam into a premier destination for endurance sports.

Six-time IRONMAN World Champion and one of the sport's most inspiring pioneers, triathlon legends Mark Allen, and Yee Sze Mun, the 88-year-old Malaysian icon and Hall of Fame Inductee, continue to redefine the limits of age and endurance.

The sport in Việt Nam has exploded in popularity over the past decade with this year attracting 1,900 Vietnamese athletes to the full distances. The country debuted the event with 54 athletes at the inaugural event in 2015.

The 2025 edition also marks a major technological leap for the event integrating for the first time ever Mixed Reality (MR) technology through a pioneering partnership with immersive tech company tagSpace at the IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang.

Vice chairwoman of the city’s people’s committee, Nguyễn Thị Anh Thi said: "IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang has played a pivotal role in showcasing the spirit of resilience, the drive to conquer and global connectivity - values that reflect the very essence of local people. We are proud to continue our partnership with IRONMAN and remain committed to providing the strongest possible support to help the event grow into one of the most distinguished sporting competitions in the Asia-Pacific region.”

The CEO of Minh Long company Lý Huy Sáng, said: "We are honored to take on a new milestone as the Presenting Sponsor of IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang. We remain committed to preserving and promoting enduring values, ensuring that Vietnam’s identity and aspirations continue to shine brightly on the global stage."

Paul Martin, tagSpace’s founder and CEO said: “One of our core pillars at tagSpace is using new technologies to encourage people to get outdoors, active and healthy and our mantra is; information, exploration, entertainment. So combining these experiences for Ironman triathlon events is something our team is incredibly excited about.”

The General Manager of Sunrise Events Vietnam, Rob Zamacoma, shared his enthusiasm for the anniversary and the future: “Celebrating ten years of IRONMAN in Vietnam is a truly momentous occasion. We are incredibly proud of the growth of this event and the passionate community it has fostered. With over 3,500 participating, this year’s event stands once again as the largest IRONMAN 70.3 race in Southeast Asia, a testament to Việt Nam's rising stature in the global triathlon stage and the growth of the local triathlon community.”

“IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang is more than just a race, it embodies spirit, perseverance, and community," said Karen Matthews, representative of IRONMAN Asia.

"Over ten incredible years, this race has captured the hearts of athletes and supporters alike, setting Đà Nẵng apart as a truly special destination within the global IRONMAN family. We are excited to continue this journey of growth, connection and inspiration together."
